Is office administration right for you?

Explore the foundational skills required to begin a career as an administrative professional. You will learn to collaborate and communicate with diverse groups in a respectful manner while developing modern computer and technology skills.

You will be able to apply appropriate policies, privacy considerations, and ethical responsibilities in business and professional settings. Learn how to produce and distribute accurate business documents using appropriate software tools in a variety of business/workplace contexts.

As a student

As a student, you will become an integral part of the School of Businessthroughout your program. Our Office Administrative Professional program is delivered primarily in-person with many classes available in an online format. Classes are predominantly held at the Interurban campus. Students are encouraged to reach out to the department chair to discuss options.

Small class size

With smaller class sizes, you'll get to know your peers and instructors for more in-depth learning, support and camaraderie.

Work experience

Put your skills to work and gain valuable industry experience. Students have the option to participate in an internship work term upon completion of your courses.

After graduation

As a graduate, you are prepared for employment in entry-level administrative to executive assistant positions as well as self-employment opportunities.

Graduates of the program may choose to complete specialized training in a number of areas, as this program ladders directly into additional credentials within the legal administration field.

What to expect

The program consists of 10 coursesstarting in the Fall, Winter, Summerterm. Program courses are delivered in a combination of online and face-to-face instruction. Evening and daytime classes are held predominantly at the Interurban campus and the program can be taken on a full or part-time basis. Please note that not all classes are offered in every term. If you are not planning to study during the Fall term, please contact your Academic Advisor or Program Leader prior to starting your program.

Co-operative Education Option

Apply your classroom skills in the workplace and bring your workplace skills back to the classroom. When you engage in co-operative education, you get an early start on preparing for your career after graduation. You will have the opportunity to alternate between full-time studies and full-time paid work where you can bring your applied learning classroom to life.

To participate in co-operative education, prior to your first work term you will need to successfully complete

  • Eight (8) first year courses, with a cumulativeGPAof 3.0 (C+), and
  • the Career Development-Workplace Preparation Skills (CDEV-WPS) course

Program participation requirements

Many first year Business courses require Math as a prerequisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11,MATH 073,MATH 073, MATH 137,or “C+” inMATH 072,MATH 075or MATH 135). Students may enter this program without Math but please note, students must complete one of the Math courses as listed above or successfully complete þƵ’s Math assessment in or before their first semester of study.
