Universal Design for Learning

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research and principles-based approach to education that employs practices that enhance the learning for all students while reducing the need for many accommodations.

Principles

UDL is a set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn.

UDL is structured around three foundational principles:

  • Multiple means of Engagement โ€“ foster purposeful, motivated learners
  • Multiple means of Representation โ€“ foster resourceful, knowledgeable learners
  • Multiple means of Action & Expression โ€“ foster strategic, goal-directed learners

from CAST.

Tools for supporting inclusive design

With funding from the Ministry of Advanced Education, the project was launched in 2018. ย Resources include a toolkit for creating accessible materials and a collection of 17 student persona cards.
